UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Dollaway (UFN 58) took place on December 20, 2014 from the Ginásio José Corrêa in Barueri, Brazil as the UFC put on its last event of the calendar year.

The main event was a 5-round bout between two top 10 middleweights as the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida took on the #10 ranked C.B. Dollaway. The card was co-main evented by the return of former UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barão and the #14 ranked Mitch Gagnon.

Lyoto Machida:

Lyoto Machida is truly one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time and often goes underappreciated. Machida came into UFN 58 off of a loss to UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman. ‘The Dragon’ was set to take on the streaking C.B. Dollaway. Machida once again proved that he is among the best in the world with a 62-second destruction of ‘The Doberman’. Machida landed a vicious kick to the body and followed it up with punches to gain the fastest victory of his career. The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion already made his claim to be back in title contention and will likely get another top 5 opponent next that could result in him getting another title shot.

Rashid Magomedov:

Rashid Magomedov came into UFN 58 riding a 10-fight win streak and was 2-0 in the UFC this year. Magomedov was set to face one of his toughest tests to date as he took on the undefeated Elias Silvério. In a very exciting fight, the Russian seemed to be in control from start to finish and displayed the excellent striking that he possesses. Although Magomedov was up on the scorecards, that did not stop him from seeking the finish. The American Top Team lightweight got the TKO victory with just 3-seconds left in the fight. Now 19-1 and 3-0 in the UFC, Magomedov is quickly rising up the ranks and could be in the top 15 very shortly.

Mike Rhodes:

Coming into the 2014 year, Mike Rhodes was looking like a solid new prospect in the welterweight division. Unfortunately, this year could not have gone much worse for ‘Biggie’. The Roufusport welterweight came into UFN 58 with a 0-2 UFC record and the night would end without him picking up his first career win within the promotion. Rhodes foight a very tough and talented Erick Silva, but Silva proved to be too much and made quick work of him with a arm-triangle choke submission victory at 1:15 of Round 1. Rhodes has now lost all three of his UFC fights this year and the once promising prospect might be on his way out of the UFC.

Tom Niinimäki:

Tom Niinimäki entered UFN 58 with a 1-2 record in the UFC and was set to take on UFC newcomer Renato Moicano who took the fight on less than 10 days notice. Niinimäki looked outmatched on the feet from the very beginning. In a must win situation, ‘Stoneface’ came up short once again and loss his third straight UFC fight via rear-naked choke. Just like Mike Rhodes, Niinimäki is 0-3 in the UFC this year and may have made his last walk to the octagon, at least for the time being.
