UFC on FOX: Dillashaw vs. Barão 2 (UFC on FOX 16) was live from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on July 25, 2015.
The main event was a rematch a long time in the making as UFC Bantamweight Champion T.J. Dillashaw finally took on the man he took the title from in Renan Barão in a 5-round title fight. The co-main event was a pivotal match-up in the women’s bantamweight division as the #2 ranked Miesha Tate took on the #5 ranked Jessica Eye in a fight that would likely determine the next challenger to Ronda Rousey’s UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.
Just like at every event, UFC on FOX 16 saw many fighters pick up a big win and advance their career in the right direction, whereas others were not victorious and for the time being are knocked down a notch. With that being said, check out our biggest winners and losers from UFC on FOX 16 below.
Winners
T.J. Dillashaw
At UFC on FOX 16, T.J. Dillashaw put on yet another spectacular championship performance. Not much changed from the first fight to the second as Dillashaw yet again dominated Renan Barão from start to finish. This time, Dillashaw was able to get the stoppage a little bit earlier as he finished the fight via TKO at 35-seconds of Round 4. The emergence of the Team Alpha Male bantamweight was a quick one, but with another masterful performance, he proved he is here to stay.
Miesha Tate
At UFC on FOX 16, Miesha Tate was looking to earn yet another opportunity against Ronda Rousey as she took on Jessica Eye. Tate was getting picked apart and was in trouble early, but she should her heart and was able to steal the first round with a devastating knockdown. The fight was lopsided from there on as ‘Cupcake’ was able to do pretty much whatever she wanted. Tate won the fight via unanimous decision. Although many may not like it, Tate certainly did everything she had to do to earn another shot at the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey.
Losers
Takanori Gomi
At UFC on FOX 16, Takanori Gomi was looking to get back in the win column for the first time in over a year against fan favorite Joe Lauzon. Gomi did not have much to offer and lost via TKO at 2:37 of Round 1. ‘The Fireball Kid’ is now 1-3 in his last four fights. The last two fights were particularly lopsided and both first round stoppages. The 36-year-old is now 4-6 in the UFC and with over 45 professional fights in his MMA career there has to be the question of how much does he have left.
Jessamyn Duke
At UFC on FOX 16, Jessamyn Duke was looking to finally get back in the win column for the first time since 2013. Duke took on promotional newcomer Elizabeth Phillips. The two fought each other previously when they were amateurs and Duke was victorious with a second round guillotine choke. This time, the ‘TUF 18’ alum’s UFC career was very much on the line. ‘The Gun’ lost the fight via unanimous decision in an unimpressive fight. This marks the third straight fight that Duke has dropped. Being a teammate of Ronda Rousey put more pressure on Duke than what would have been on her had she trained anywhere else which could have been a burden to the 29-year-old. Whether or not that was a factor, this was likely her last time entering the octagon.
