UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. St. Preux (UFN 56) took place on November 8, 2014 from the Ginásio Municipal Tancredo Neves in Uberlândia, Brazil.
The main event was originally supposed to be a 5-round light heavyweight bout between MMA legend Maurício ‘Shogun’ Rua and Jimi Manuwa, but Manuwa suffered an injury and was replaced by Ovince St. Preux.

Winners:
Ovince St. Preux:
Ovince St. Preux entered UFN 56 coming off of a disappointing loss to Ryan Bader back in August. With multiple opponent changings for his fight at UFN 56, St. Preux ultimately found himself in the main event against a legend of the sport in ‘Shogun’ Rua. St. Preux looked next to perfect as he knocked out ‘Shogun’ at 34-seconds of Round 1. The former Tennessee Volunteer silenced the entire Brazilian crowd and in doing so, he solidified himself in the top 10 light heavyweights in the world. St. Preux got a victory over the biggest name that he has faced in his entire career and improved his UFC record to 5-1. After a minor step back in his last fight, St. Preux bounced back in the best possible fashion and will surely get a highly ranked opponent in his next fight.
Caio Magalhães:
Caio Magalhães entered UFN 56 on a three-fight win streak and was set to take on Trevor ‘Hot Sauce’ Smith. Magalhães made very quick work of Smith and was able to get the knockout victory at 31-seconds of Round 1. Although some of the punches appeared to be to the back of the head, the Brazilian still picked up the impressive victory and improved his record to 9-1. After losing his UFC debut, Magalhães has since put four straight wins together and is continuing to prove himself as a legitimate prospect in the middleweight division.
Losers:
Maurício ‘Shogun’ Rua:
Maurício ‘Shogun’ Rua is one of the greatest fighters that this sport has seen and is one of the last PRIDE guys to still be fighting. ‘Shogun’ was coming into UFN 56 off of another incredible fight against Dan Henderson where he was knocked out in the third round after getting the better of the first two rounds. Rua was taking on Ovince St. Preux and the outcome would be one that Rua was not hoping for. An early counter dropped Rua and the fight would end shortly after. The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion has now lost four of his last five and many are calling for his retirement. ‘Shogun’ will ultimately decide for himself what is best, but it certainly is tough to see a true MMA legend put on performances like this one.
Ian McCall and John Lineker:
The co-main event was scheduled to be a high profile flyweight bout that could have produced the next title challenger to Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson’s UFC Flyweight Championship. John Lineker, who is notorious for missing weight, originally weighed in above the flyweight limit, but did successfully make it on a second attempt. Ian McCall successfully made weight on the first attempt, but in the time from weighing in and the scheduled time of their bout, a lot would change. ‘Uncle Creepy’ fell ill and it was later revealed that he had a blood infection. The bout was ultimately scrapped and eliminated a possible opportunity for one of them to make a big statement within the flyweight division. It certainly was neither one of their faults, but it was an unfortunate turn of events.
