Bill Algeo takes to Instagram to announce his retirement from MMA
Logging into social media Tuesday night, Bill Algeo (18-9 MMA, 5-5 UFC) took to Instagram to announce his retirement from competition. In the post, the featherweight veteran happily described his journey as a fighter and how it shaped him into the man he is today. Although his days inside the cage are over, Algeo intends to remain involved outside of it by furthering his teaching career at Algeo MMA & Kickboxing, which he owns and is the head coach at.
“Decided to hang ’em up for realz this time,” Bill Algeo began. “This game has been good to me and helped me develop and become a better person. It’s going to be strange not having a fight coming up(unless [Dr. Anthony] Fauci decides to man up), but I’ll be guiding the next generation over at @algeomma. I’ve met plenty of cool ppl along the way chasing their dreams and shared the cage with some rivals, friends and heroes of mine.”

Bill Algeo further goes on to laud the UFC for their efforts to keep the sport afloat during the chaotic Covid-19 pandemic, including giving him the means to compete while his gym was forced to shut down for several months. He also thanked everyone who followed him on his road as a mixed martial artist and supported him.
“Thank you to the @ufc and the @ufc staff for taking care of me and for having the balls to bring sports back safely in the pandemic,” he continued. My gym was labeled non-essential for 3-4 months and the ufc helped provide income during that weird time. #forevergrateful.”
“Thank you to my ppls who have been with me since the beginning and buying tickets to random casinos to help me live my dream,” Bill Algeo wrote. Thank you to @santtiiii for helping me through the ups and downs of this game cause there’s been plenty.”
“Love y’all.”
