Top Contender Wants To Fight In Mexico Again This September, “I think it’s perfect.”

Brandon Moreno picked up a fantastic win this past weekend at UFC Mexico, but how will he fit into the incredibly bloated flyweight title picture?

Brandon Moreno Systematically Wears Down Steve Erceg Last Weekend

Competing in his home country for the first time after more than a year, Brandon Moreno fought one-time UFC championship competitor Steve Erceg in the main event of UFC on ESPN 64. Looking more sharp and fast than we’ve ever seen him before, “The Assassin Baby” delivered a strong performance across 25 minutes against the Aussie, pelting him with stiff and unorthodox punches.

Although he did face some adversity in the second, the former champion weathered the storm and controlled the pace for the rest of the bout, with Brandon Moreno winning by unanimous decision.

The triumph put the Mexican’s win streak to two in a row since trouncing Amir Albazi at UFC Fight Night 246 last November. Speaking with media members at the post-fight press conference, Moreno couldn’t help but voice his happiness to have won in front of countrymen and women.

Brandon Moreno Takes to Podium After Win

“Man, I have so many emotions, man,” Brandon Moreno told the media. “The first time I fought here was 2017 against Sergio Pettis. It was a main event and I lost. I’ve been holding this ‘Viva Mexico’ for so long, and I finally did it tonight. I’m just happy, man. I’m just enjoying this moment. I felt all the fight week, everything feels just different. I have experience. I have the energy. At the end, I just executed. So I’m happy.”

Brandon Moreno stakes his claim for a spot at UFC 320

As the show rolled on this past weekend, the promotion made a massive announcement that the upcoming UFC 320 event will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico this September. As arguably the top mixed martial arts star from the country, Brandon Moreno was quick to volunteer himself for a potential spot on the sure-to-be blockbuster card.

“That’s the goal. Guadalajara, I think it’s perfect,” he said. “Even for the UFC, for the promotion. If they want to get a pay-per-view event for Noche UFC in September in Guadalajara, I think I’m the right choice. I feel today I have enough arguments to raise my hand and say, ‘Hey, I can be the main event, the pay-per-view in Guadalajara in September.”’

Has Brandon Moreno done enough for a title shot?

With a pair of wins over two of the 125-lb division’s finest, Moreno may have made a strong enough argument for a possible third crack at the reigning flyweight belt holder Alexandre Pantoja.

However, at this point in time, several other top names in the category have built their own cases for an opportunity to contend for UFC gold, like Manel Kape, who is coming off of a statement-making knockout victory over Asu Almabayev. Kai Kara-France recently flattened Erceg with a gnarly first round stoppage at UFC 305, handing “Astro Boy” his only loss by finish. Finally, Brandon Royval himself has picked up two extraordinary wins, taking out Moreno by split decision and becoming the first man to take the zero from the formerly undefeated Tatsuro Taira.
