A welterweight bout has been added to the already stacked UFC 189 pay-per-view card, as Brandon Thatch is set to take on John Howard.

Brandon Thatch vs John Howard set for UFC 189

The news was reported on Wednesday’s UFC Tonight.  MMAOddsbreaker.com previously reported Thatch vs. Mein, which was incorrect.

Thatch is coming off a ‘Fight of the Night’ headliner against former lightweight champ Benson Henderson.  He started the fight strong, but was submitted in the fourth round.

Howard is in a must win situation. The Boston native was most recently stopped by Lorenz Larkin in January. Prior to that, he lost a close decision to Brian Ebersole.

The card placement for the bout is unknown at this time.

UFC 183 takes place live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on July 11.  In the main event, UFC featherweight titleholder Jose Aldo takes on the Irish star Conor McGregor.
