Cage Warriors has returned to the states for Cage Warriors 149 at the Sycuan Casino Resort in San Diego, California. With just 6 fights prepared for the night, the UK-based promotion has just the right amount of action to get fight fans ready for the weekend.
The main event will feature two true veterans of the sport when Wilson Reis (26-12) takes on Johnny Campbell (22-14). Reis has seen just about everything you can see at the highest level as a bantamweight and featherweight. The 38-year-old has experience over former UFC Champions such as Demetrious Johnson, Hector Cejudo and even current Bellator Featherweight Champion Patricio Pitbull. After facing such tough competition for over a decade of his combat sports career, it’s no surprise he was ready for a last-minute change of opponent.
Johnny Campbell is no stranger to tough fight himself with wins over Kris Moutinho, Juan Puerta and Henry Corales. Unlike his opponent though, Campbell has spent most of his career on the regional scene quietly building up a reputation as a savvy veteran who’s ready to steal the show at any moment. Campbell should have an excellent opportunity tonight after he answers the call to save tonight’s main event.
The co-main is in great hands as the San Diego native James Lynch (5-3) returns for his 6th fight for the company. With all of his fights with the promotion in his hometown, Lynch has been such a key part in making these shows possible for American fans. Lynch will look to put his recent loss behind him as he also takes on a new opponent on short notice.
Cage Warriors didn’t have to look too far when they found Georgii Eivas (7-5) to take this scrap. Fighting out of Combat Sports Academy in Dublin, California, the “Assyrian Assassin” might have his own fans in attendance. Some might also be interested in his ability to end fights on his own terms with all 7 of his wins ending in 2 rounds or less.
Cage Warriors also brought back Damon Wilson (5-1) to put on a show for his hometown fans. Wilson has been all gas and no brakes since joining the promotion with all of his 5 fights ending in 7 minutes or less. After suffering his first career loss to Tobias Harila just 3 months ago, Wilson returns to the cage eager to get back on the winning track.
Rising featherweight Roberto Hernandez (5-1) takes on his toughest test yet when he squares off against John De Jesus (15-10). Hernandez has been flawless since joining Cage Warriors and is looking for his fourth win against the well-tested John De Jesus tonight. The factoryX fighter has been fighting since 2012 and has crossed paths with the likes of Aaron Pico, Pat Sabatini and Billy Quarantillo. He plans to use all of that valuable experience in this classic battle of the rookie versus the vet.
Blake Perry (1-1) will also make his Cage Warriors debut in tonight’s opening bout as he prepares to avenge an unfortunate loss after the cage side doctor called the fight due to a broken nose. Many remember him from his debut in Bellator against Makoa Cooper, where he finished the young prospect with an anaconda choke in the second round.
MMA Sucka will have live coverage for Cage Warriors 149: San Diego as it airs live on UFC Fight Pass at 10pm E.T./7pm P.T.
