After a four fight stint with the UFC, Canadian Matt Dwyer has been released from the organization.

Dwyer released the news on his Instagram page.

“Hey everyone it’s with a heavy heart that I have to inform you all that I was cut by the UFC. We’ve actually known since we got back from New Jersey but we had to wait for drug tests to come back before anything was final.”

This isn’t the end of Dwyer’s MMA journey, in fact the next chapter has already begun.

“We already have a fight booked, I’ll make a post about that later but for now I just want to say that this is one of those times where you have to play the hand you’ve been dealt,” Dwyer said in the Instagram post. “I could let this hold me back but I’m not. I’m taking my losses and picking myself back up and going after it again. Anyone has the strength to get back up and keep pushing and you’re no different than me. This is but a new chapter of my life (if I had to label it, I’d call it: “into the pits” lol) and I’m embracing it.”

Dwyer (8-4) was picked up by the UFC after going 7-1 on the British Columbia local scene. His final two fights before getting to the big show were against former UFC fighters Shonie Carter and DaMarques Johnson, both of which were TKO finishes.

It’s unfortunate that the 26-year-old was released, as he was only finished once in his three losses and earned two $50,000 bonuses.

The Kelowna, B.C. native was 1-3 inside the Octagon, with a “Performance of the Night” bonus against Alan Jouban and a “Knockout of the Night” which will be on a number of highlight reels against William Macário. Most recently Dwyer lost a unanimous decision to Randy Brown.
