Road to the Pro’s: Micah Brakefield #11

Hey guys, so obviously i'm not going pro yet. I am going to be fighting Ryan Allen on Feb 11th up in Vernon, BC. It will be my 7th fight inside the Battlefield Fight League cage, and my 8th amateur fight. People around here (Vancouver, BC) see that and instantly think it's time to go pro.

Half-Cut Picks: UFC 141 – Lesnar vs. Overeem

Why read other UFC predictions when you can you have a nice laugh in reading mine. At UFC 141 I went (3-2). Meh. I’ll throw out an old sports cliché, “the bounces aren’t going our way.” To be honest I don’t know too many people who were expecting Mark Hominick to lose the way he did and I think most of us can agree that Claude Patrick deserved a better fate against Ebersole. But we won’t cry over spilt milk, instead we will raise our glasses for another edition of MMASucka.com’s Half-Cut Picks for UFC 141.

Toronto’s Pierson Ready for “Stun Gun” at UFC 141

These gloves we wear are not very forgiving. I look at my boy Mark Hominick in his last fight. Nine times out of ten I take Hominick over the Korean Zombie but he got caught and Jung won that fight. Anything can happen [...]

Gabriel Gonzaga Ready to Make a Big Run in UFC Heavyweight Division

When I hear the name Gabriel "Napão" Gonzaga, my thoughts are automatically brought back to his incredible head kick KO over Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic. Following that win, which was the most impressive and most memorable of his career, he went 3-5 in his next 8 UFC fights.

Heeeeere’s Johny! A Shining Story Heading Into UFC 141

To be honest, my focus at the time was on the Olympics. I didn’t have any Internet or knew much about anything “mixed martial arts” until I graduated from college. I was 24 years old before I even started training in boxing, jiu-jitsu, or anything. After my last wrestling match where I lost, I was at a crossroads in my life. I had a manager ask me if I wanted to fight for a living, so I prayed about it, and decided why not. I went to Vegas to train and fell in love.

Confident, Focused Fitch Continues to Work for Title Shot

When asked to describe Jon Fitch's fighting style, one word keeps coming up – grinder. A guy that will wear you down with sheer will to get the upper hand and keep it. The skills are there, but almost overshadowed by the grit and determination that is more his calling card. The label also applies to a hockey player with similar grit, what the old-time hockey folks called “lunch bucket” players. The ones that weren't concerned with the flashy plays, but went out there put out their best honest effort and won the battles in workmanlike fashion. “The guys in the trenches” as Don Cherry would say.

SPECIAL EDITION – Behind the Shirt w/ Marc Wilson #5.9: Maturity… and Respect

I hope Jon Jones doesn't read my blog... I figured I was safe posting one of my bi-weekly articles for MMASUCKA.com as I doubt Jon Jones reads my blog...

Driven Pokrajac Has New Ambitions after UFC 140 Win

Igor Pokrajac made short work of Krzysztof Soszynski, taking just thirty five seconds to knock out "The Polish Experiment". Coming off a six month layoff, he looked like a man possessed from the second Sosynski came within sight. The determination in his eyes was unmistakeable and his steely demeanor evoked memories of his mentor, the legendary Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic. To hear Pokrajac tell it though, it was just another day at the office.

Half-Cut Picks: UFC 140 – Jones vs. Machida

It's another edition of Half-Cut picks where I make stupid choices. I never claimed to be able to read the future, but I will tell you that the fights tonight are going to be awesome. At UFC 139 I went a miserable (2-3). Maybe it was good that I had a few weeks to stew on it before UFC 140 in Toronto, Ontario. It was probably expected since I went (4-1) at UFC on FOX. Nonetheless we will rebound with a solid Half-Cut Picks for this upcoming card.

Calm and Collected Claude Patrick Won’t be Distracted by Ebersole

Mississauga's own Claude Patrick stands with a bit of a slouch, leaning back against the wall of the Bell Lighthouse Theatre, site of the UFC 140 press conference. His demeanor is so relaxed, if you weren't familiar with the sport you would assume he was waiting for a movie to start rather than gearing up for a main card pay-per-view fight in his hometown.
