Well, Im glad this blog is named “Road to the Pro’s” and not “Road to Second Amateur Belt”. I would like to state that the number one goal of amateur MMA is to ensure that nobody gets hurt. In my fight on Saturday night after a very short exchange on our feet I went for a single leg and took Adam to the mat where he proceeded to land some hammer fists. The referee (Mr. Kevin Dornan) said due to my lack of response to the punches he stopped the fight. I did not respond to the punches because they were not doing any damage to me and I was pre-occupied with trying to advance on my opponents leg.
I don’t want to toot my own horn, but I’m going to toot it because, I’m “bleeping” excited and apparently psychic too. A while back I responded to the whole Alistair Overeem being released from Strikeforce news as a precursor to Overeem signing a big deal with the UFC and that his first opponent would be Brock Lesnar. Okay I had no inside knowledge, it was purely a guess and some well thought out match making business. I smelt it immediately, and apparently the UFC smelt it too. $$ [...]
Sorry it's late... again! I went from having absolutely nothing to write about, to having no time to write. I am now headlining the September 17th Battlefield show against Adam Santos for the heavyweight title....I weigh 195 pounds. Adam is a big guy at 6'6" 240lbs and a black belt in Morganti jiu jitsu. Apparently that makes him a fairly tough guy to find a fight for.
Have you ever spoken to people who watched Muhammad Ali and they go on and on about how great of a boxer he was. When it comes to the sport of MMA maybe one day we will be talking about Anderson Silva in the same vein.
It's been a pretty slow two weeks for me. I've been training a fair amount but have been concentrating more on getting some bills paid before I get back to the grind and head into the next training camp.
It looks like I'm going to be fighting again in November and apparently against Jer Kornelson... again. It's not that I don't think he's worthy of a title shot, or that I'm scared to fight him
When I’m not ranting in my #Just Saying… pieces here on MMASucka.com, I like to do interesting interviews. One fighter that I have been following closely is John “The Natural” Alessio. I was privileged to have a little chit chat with who I believe is one of the best MMA professional athletes to ever come out of Canada.
Well the relaxing time is over and it’s time to get back to work. Two weeks ago I won the amateur Battlefield middleweight title. In the days leading up to the fight I found it weird that I was going to go into a fight and attempt to stand up and box the entire fight. My hands were untested but I was confident.
Okay I’m not smoking from a bong. Maybe sometimes I’m considered a conspiracy theorist; like 9-11 being an inside job and that we are headed towards a One-World Government. That is all true. Look it up. Don’t believe what you see on TV because the corporations control the news. Oh and there is also some conspiracies that happen in the sport of MMA like all of this “Overeem being cut from Strikeforce” business.
I figure I would start a new segment on Corner Man called Just Saying… Yes it will be a soapbox and you may agree or disagree with me but that’s the fun of it. I hope that some of the stuff I say will spark conversation and make you send me angry emails. I will leave the tame columns for my weekly newspaper spots.
Well, It’s one week away from Battlefield Fight League 9: Quest for Gold. Our training camp pretty much wrapped up on Sunday with a great class led by Shawn Albrecht and Josh Bohnen.
