With all of the fight announcements this past week, this one has to be on top of most peoples wishlists. The UFC has not yet officially announced the fight, but both Vitor Belfort and Cung Le have spoken about the fact that they will be facing eachother at UFC 139 in San Jose in November.
It was February when we last saw Jon Fitch fight in the octagon. He fought BJ Penn to a draw at UFC 127 and was expected to fight him again in a rematch, but that bout did not happen due to his shoulder injury.
Today the Ohio Athletic Commission releasedthe salaries and payouts for those who competed at the Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov Showtime event back on Sept. 10, 2011.
The 21 year old Canadian fighter made his debut at Strikeforce: Barnett vs Kharitonov with an explosive tko win against Evangelista Santos @ 3:18 of the 3rd round. He has notable wins over Marius Zaromskis, Josh Burkman and Joe Riggs. His first amateur fight was at the age of 14 and he amassed a 6-1 record before turning pro in 2006. He now stands at 23-7, 13 wins by (t)ko and 7 wins by submission. His strong points is his well-roundedness body shots and reach, his losses have mostly come due to being out-grappled or out-wrestled.
Last evening, Bellator Fighting Championships kicked off their season 5 at Caesar’s Atlantic City. The first card of the season featured the quarterfinals of the welterweight division. Although 3 of the 4 main card fights went to decision, each fighter did their best to prove they are worthy of a shot at the title versus the winner of Ben Askren Vs. Jay Heron.
Back in June, Daniel Cormier beat a very game Jeff Monson in Grand Prix Alternate Bout. Just three months later Cormier has entered the Grand Prix due to Alistair Overeem's departure and is now in the finals against Josh Barnett. Last night (Sept, 10) Cormier defeated Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva via first round KO.
Despite being tagged by a pretty good punch by Sergei Kharitonov, Josh Barnett made fairly quick work of his adversary at last nights second leg of The Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. With the win Barnett will now take on tournament replacement Daniel Cormier.
The Bellator Welterweight Tournament began tonight at Caesar's Atlantic City in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The main card aired live on MTV2, while the prelims aired on Spike.com. The night was headlined by a bout between season four tournament fighters Brent Weedman and Chris Lozano.
