Las Vegas, NV (USA) – Twenty four hours away from the highly anticipated welterweight showdown between former two-division UFC® champion BJ Penn and the unpredictable Nick Diaz, the main event stars came together at today’s weigh-in from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. To no one’s surprise, things quickly got explosive.
The UFC 137 fighters will take to the scale at the Mandalay Bay Event Center today in anticipation of Saturday's stacked event. Headlining the card will be a lightweight showdown between "The Prodigy" BJ Penn and Nick Diaz. The fight card will be co-headlined by Matt Mitrione vs. Cheick Kongo.
This week we were treated to two fights on episode 6 of The Ultimate Fighter Season 14. The show again proved to be better than the last week, as the two coaches again feuded with each other, fighters were bitter with each other and the fights were killer. Our TUF Video Blogger Marcus Brimage does not only seem like he dissects the episode for us here at MMASucka, but he seems to be the guy on the show that does that as well.
Today, UFC President Dana White along with the majority of the main card fighters from UFC 137 gathered at The New York New York Bridge on the Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada for the UFC 137 Pre-Fight Press Conference. The ever changing card is still as stacked as ever with the main event pitting BJ Penn against Nick Diaz. The co-main event is a heavyweight showdown between Matt Mitrione and Cheick Kongo.

This Saturday the UFC returns to Las Vegas for UFC 137 and in preparation the fighters took part in Wednesdays Open Workouts. Following each fighters open workout the media had an opportunity to catch up with them and see how their last minute game plans are going. Thanks as always go out to Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, Megan Olivi of HeavyMMA.com and Karyn Bryant of MMAHeat.com for always asking such great questions. So instead of going to YouTube.com and searching for each individual video, MMASucka has put them all into one place for your. We like to call this 'One Stop Shop'.
Dana White previously said it was only a matter of time before he would have to make the fan anticipated "Super Fight" between Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva. Today however, on Sherdog radio Georges' trainer Firas Zahabi was asked about his thoughts on him moving up to 185lbs to fight Anderson and his answer you may find shocking.
How many times has the UFC had to change up this countdown show? They must have edited it down like crazy. First it was Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz, then it was Georges St-Pierre vs. Carlos Condit and now it's BJ Penn vs. Nick Diaz. None the less tonight is the premiere of The Countdown to UFC 137.
Kenny Florian will quite frankly be known as a fighter who came very close to greatness, but was never quite great. He had three different title opportunities and came up shy all three times. His first lightweight title shot was against Sean Sherk for the vacant title at the time and he lost by decision. He then racked up a six fight winning streak before falling to BJ Penn in another title fight by rear naked choke. Another crack at the lightweight title was just around the corner, but Gray Maynard halted that one. Following his loss to Maynard, Florian decided to give the featherweight division a shot.
Yesterday MMASucka reported that Frank Mir predicts that Brock Lesnar will easily beat Alistair Overeem. It looks as if Overeem feels differently, he spoke with FightStar TV and stated that he believes he will finish Lesnar within the first round. The fight with Lesnar which is Overeem's debut in the Octagon will take place on December 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
