Chris Curtis fell just short of a win against Brendan Allen at UFC Vegas 90.

Replacing the injured Marvin Vettori on less than three weeks, the UFC Middleweight was as game as they come against the #6-ranked Allen in a long-awaited rematch. Curtis got his offense going but Allen stood his ground and was able to find multiple takedowns across five rounds.
Allen ultimately got the win by split decision, earning revenge three years after Curtis sparked him at a past Fight Night even at the UFC Apex.
A victory over Allen would have been monumental for Curtis as it would grant entry into the very top of the middleweight division. Not all hope is lost though as the 36 year-old goes back to the drawing board after the defeat.
“Not the result we wanted, but it is what it is,” Curtis wrote on Instagram. “I thought we had it, but congrats to [Brendan Allen]. Love you brotha and enjoy the night. But remember, it’s 1-1, you owe me the trilogy lol. Rest up and enjoy your family. Thank you all for the support, and I’m sorry. I felt good, I was ready, maybe I’m just getting too old for this shit. Lol time will tell. Until next time guys.”
At the end of what was one of the best fights of the year, Curtis trickled down to the canvas with a visible injury, one that will likely put him out of commission for the next several months depending on the results of a MRI scan.
“It looks like I tore my hamstring,” Curtis revealed. “Popped it in round 2 and we think it tore in round 5 at the end. We’ll find out on Monday after we get some scans. Thank you guys for the concern.”
Having some time to collect himself and rewatch the biggest fight of his life, Curtis admits this setback will be a hard pill to swallow.
“Watched it back 4 times now. This one is going to sting for a while,” Curtis wrote on ‘X’ on Sunday. “Not mad at Brendan. He didn’t score the fight. But yeah… that was a huge opportunity. I made mistakes, but I thought I did enough. This one hurts…”
