Chris Spang pummels Nah-Shon Burrell to first-round stoppage

Two welterweight prospects were given the biggest opportunity of their careers tonight, opening the televised portion of what might serve as the most important event on the Strikeforce calendar in 2012.

Spang entered the six-sided cage looking to leave with his hand raised unlike his brother, Andreas who failed to win the Bellator middleweight tournament last  night – The 24-year-old Swede had just tasted his first defeat to Ricky Legere and in this cut-throat, hard-hitting sport two losses can give you your walking papers.

Burrell is widely considered to be one of the most interesting prospects at 170-pounds; the once beaten Strikeforce Challengers product is currently riding a six-bout unbeaten streak with three of those in the San Jose-based organization’s cage but his apple cart can officially be deemed tipped over, momentarily at least.

Spang opened the fight the aggressor moving forward zapping Burrell with his jab and getting in close with his clinch game before a left hook put him on dream street.

as Burrell returned to his feet pressed with his back against the cage Spang throws a series of punches and knees before relentlessly pummeling with uppercuts and knees before Burrell collapsed forcing Josh Rosenthal to step in to make the save.
