Conor McGregor Granted Boxing License in California

Have you dreamed about Conor Mcgregor stepping-in to the boxing ring? Have you ever found yourself in a deep trance in which a fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was actually a possibility? Wake up, because the pathway to this dream becoming a reality has been paved.

On Wednesday evening, Conor McGregor’s agent, Audie Attar, informed Ariel Helwani that McGregor has been issued a boxing license from the California State Athletic Commission.

“He got a license today and a federal ID. He’s a California boxer now,” said Andy Foster, the executive officer of the California State Athletic Commission.

Foster continued: “I’d love to see him fight in California. It just needs to be the right opponent. Certainly a high-level opponent. We’re happy to license him. We’re happy he’s a California fighter.” – MMA Fighting

Of course Floyd Mayweather Jr. jumps to the minds of most fight fans considering McGregor and Mayweather have been linked together for years. However it is important to remember that the likelihood of this superfight actually happening is very slim. Career-wise, the two athletes do not have a whole lot to offer each other – other than boat-loads of money. Mixed martial arts and boxing are not compatible and therefore this fight makes very little sense. That being said, the fight would most definitely break all boxing records and likely all pay-per-view records.

To add to the unrealistic yet very interesting considerations, boxing champion Canelo Alvarez has previously shown interest in fighting McGregor as well. Alvarez stated that if McGregor ever wanted to flirt with boxing, he’s sitting there waiting for him. Could Conor McGregor be the first fighter to win two belts from an opponent named Alvarez? Unlikely, but interesting nonetheless.

Are you feeling clueless? Does it feel a bit, mysterious? That, my friends, is the Conor McGregor Show in affect. Whatever comes from this, just remember what McGregor said after defeating Nate Diaz in August: “Sh*ts about to hit the fan, I feel.”
