Dana White offers Nick Diaz a middleweight match with Lyoto Machida

Following his UFC 158 loss to Georges St-Pierre in March, Nick Diaz retired from the sport of MMA. Many didn’t think it would last long, but it has gone on longer than anticipated. However, now there is an offer on the table. According to MMAJunkie.com UFC President Dana White has asked Diaz if he’d like to move up to 185-pounds to take on former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.

Dana White offers Nick Diaz a middleweight match with Lyoto Machida

I talked to Diaz today, and I made him an offer, so we’ll see what happens. He had been talking about going to 185 pounds. Machida has been talking about going to 185 pounds. So we wanted to see if he wanted to fight Machida at 185.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard that Diaz was looking to move up to middleweight.

Diaz (26-9-1NC) is riding a two-fight losing streak. He put together an 11-fight winning streak from 2008-late 2011 with DREAM, EliteXC, Strikeforce and one UFC victory over B.J. Penn.

Machida (19-4) took on Phil Davis earlier this month at UFC 163 and lost a very controversial decision. Since losing the light heavyweight championship to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua back in 2010, “The Dragon” hasn’t faired all that well going 3-3.

For now Diaz is still retired and the ball is in his court.
