Dana White on De La Hoya’s Return, “Cocaine Isn’t Cheap.”

There are certain things in life that are just constants. Death, taxes, gravity, and Dana White going full Dana White. Dana had a lot to smile about after Saturday night’s UFC on ESPN show but he managed a moment to land a jab on bitter rival Oscar de la Hoya.

Last week, de la Hoya sat down with ESPN to discuss his return to the ring after ending his retirement of twelve years. He’s one of the most decorated fighters to ever step into the ring, winning world titles on eleven occasions in six different weight classes. Oscar de la Hoya’s last fight ended when he quit during the eighth round against Manny Pacquiao back in 2008.

He alternated wins and losses over his last eight fights, but those losses were against elite boxers. He dropped fights to Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Bernard Hopkins, and Shane Moseley.

Oscar de la Hoya seems pretty excited about the announcement of his return to the ring. “The rumors are true, and I’m going to start sparring in the next few weeks,” De La Hoya told ESPN’s, Steve Kim.

“It’s a real fight. I miss being in the ring, I love boxing. Boxing is what gave me everything I have today, and I just miss it.” The 47-year-old fighter has had issues with substance abuse in the past and that’s the genesis of Dana White’s comments.

What’s the Beef?

Dana White was at the podium at the post-fight press conference when he was asked if he’d heard that Oscar de la Hoya was making a return to the ring. He was asked what his thoughts were on the news and Dana White didn’t miss a beat.

“Cocaine isn’t cheap. It’s expensive. Gotta make the money.”

Ouch.

It’s not the first time these guys have had words. A couple of years ago Dana White called de la Hoya a “f*cknig cokehead” on the MMA Unfiltered Podcast. Oscar responded with the following verbal attack.

“Boxing has entirely rejected him. And, MMA fighters are now realizing they don’t have to risk their lives just so he can get rich. Golden Boy and I are moving forward and are bigger than ever. Dana should shut the f*ck up…”

Maybe these two should put on the gloves and do a little something for charity. Dana has shown he can make things happen. Can you imagine Dana White vs. Oscar de la Hoya on Fight Island? Take all my money!
