Daniel Cormier vs Frank Mir booked for Strikeforce

According to Frank Mir’s manager, Malki Kawa, Mir has signed to face Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier at a Strikeforce event expected to be held in late October and televised on Showtime.

It had been rumoured that Cormier was to fight another former UFC Heavyweight Champion in Tim Sylvia, but those talks apparently fizzled.

Kawa took to twitter and said “[Mir] just asked me to tweet for him “that he’s very excited about this opportunity and is very grateful to the UFC for making this fight happen.”

UFC President Dana White gave the following comment to USA Today:

“There has been a lot of speculation as to who Cormier would fight next, and this is the fight that makes the most sense. The reality is, Cormier is one of the best heavyweights in the world. He just won the grand prix and beat Josh Barnett. He needs to fight opponents of that caliber, and Frank Mir is that guy.”

The Strikeforce appearance will be a one-off for Mir, as the Strikeforce heavyweight division will be officially folded into the UFC after Cormier and Barnett’s next fights.
