It is almost time to see who comes out on top in the Super Middleweight division as David Benavidez and Caleb Plant will meet this Saturday on showtime pay-per-view live at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Benavidez (26-0, 23 KO) will be defending his interim WBC Super Middleweight belt against Plant (22-1, 13 KO) to claim as mandatory to the 168 lbs undisputed king Canelo Alvarez who takes on his WBO mandatory John Ryder on May 6th.
Caleb ‘Sweet Hands’ Plant, 30, already fought Canelo back in November 2021 which accounted to the one loss on his record. He returned this past October against Anthony Dirrell in a violent way as he dispatched the combatant in a knockout of the year-winning fashion in the ninth round on the undercard of Wilder vs Helenius event.
Benavidez, 26, also saw action just once in 2022 as he stopped former IBF Middleweight champion David Lemieux in just three rounds in a May Showtime main event in Phoenix, Arizona.
Benavidez a former two-time WBC titleholder at super middleweight, gave up the belt once for failing a drug test due to cocaine, and the other time for failing to make weight in a bout against Alexis Ángulo in 2020. Plant held the IBF super middleweight title from January 2019 until his loss to Canelo in November 2021 which coronated Alvarez as the undisputed 168 lbs king.
Benavidez and Plant have been embroiled in a long time of war of words, as the feud stems from a gym altercation a couple of years ago.
Benavidez stated the following:
“I can’t wait until they put me in the ring with him so I can beat his ass. This is going to be a great night for boxing fans. I can’t wait to step in there and give everyone the beatdown they’re coming to see.”
Meanwhile Caleb Plant claimed on his end:
“After I knocked out Dirrell, I made it clear I wanted to go after the biggest fight that could be made in the division. This is one of the most anticipated matchups and I’m here again, showing the world why I’m one of the biggest attractions in boxing. I feel sharp and on point. I’m looking forward to not only to giving the fans what they’ve been waiting for, but to show who the better man is.”
This Saturday we lay all claims and allegations to rest as only one man will come out the winner and have claim to challenge Canelo Alvarez sometime later this year.
