Edson Barboza knocks out Evan Dunham in the first round

After a stalemate throughout the first three minutes, Edson Barboza proves why he remains as one of the best strikers in the lightweight division. Nothing significant had transpired, before Dunham shot in for a takedown. Barboza showed his improved takedown defense and kept the fight standing.

When the fight stayed standing, we all expected that it would be Barboza’s fight to lose. He showed that by landing a nasty liver kick to the body. At first, the kick didn’t seem like it fully connected. Eventually Dunham’s facial expression told the story and Barboza went for the finish. Dunham was helpless in defense and Barboza completed the tremendous knockout.

Barboza (14-2) bounces back after being submitted by Donald Cerrone at UFC on Fox 11. His standup remains lethal, while his wrestling seems to have improved training under Mark Henry and Frankie Edgar. Dunham (14-6) is now on a three fight losing streak and could very well be fighting for his career, if he gets another opportunity.
