Eduard Folayang vs. Kotetsu Boku among latest ONE FC 15: Rise of Heroes additions

ONE FC’s return to the Philippines in May continues to shape up now with the addition of a trio of match-ups.

Officials announced today that match-ups featuring  Kotetsu Boku (21-9-2) vs. Eduard Folayang (13-4) at Lightweight, Rey Docyogen (10-2) vs. Joshua Alvarez (12-6) at Flyweight and Leandro Ataides (6-0) vs. Tatusya Mizuno (12-9) at 185-lbs have been added to the ONE FC 16: Rise of Heroes bill.

ONE FC 16: Rise of Heroes takes place May 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines. The main card airs LIVE on Star Sports in Asia. Global fans, meanwhile, can catch all the action, for a price of US$9.99, LIVE via online pay-per-view.

Folayang, a famed Filipino fighter and the reigning Welterweight champion of the URCC, has amassed five bouts under the ONE FC banner to date. The 29-year-old managed to snap a two-fight losing skid by defeating Vincent Latoel at ONE FC 13: Moment of Truth in December last year.

Boku, a former ONE FC champ, is coming off a first round knockout victory over Frenchman Arnaud Lepont at ONE FC 14: War of Nations just last month. While that effectively ended a two-fight losing run, a win over Folayang might knock him straight back into title contention.

Team Lakay’s Docyogen looks to register his first win in the promotion after going 0-2 in his first two bouts. He dropped a submission loss to Shinichi Kojima in his promotional debut at ONE FC 7: Return of Warriors, before falling short against former UFC veteran Yasuhiro Urushitani three months later. Eight of the Filipino fighter’s ten victories have ended in stoppages.

PXC staple Josh Alvarez saw a five-fight win streak snapped in his ONE FC debut, where he was submitted by Japan’s Koetsu Okazaki. ‘Chest Presley’ is billed as one of the top mixed martial artists from Guam, and is considered a submission ace with nine of his twelve victories coming by way of submission.

After pulling of a brutal knockout victory over Bryan Rafiq at ONE FC 12: Warrior Spirit, Brazil’s Leandro Ataides returns to the MMA cage with his pro record yet to be blemished. He fights out of the decorated Evolve MMA fight team with a host of world champions across various disciplines.

Respected Japanese veteran Tatsuya Mizuno garnered his first victory in ONE FC in October last year, after a tough outing to Renato Sobral in his promotional debut. Despite nine losses on his resume, the 32-year-old has only faced some of the best the sport has to offer, incl using Gegard Mousasi, Ilir Latifi, Melvin Manhoef and Thiago Silva among many others.

With those additions, the updated ONE FC 15: Rise of Heroes line-up now includes:

  • Bibiano Fernandes vs. Masakatsu Ueda (For ONE FC Bantamweight Championship title)
  • Rob Lisita vs. Yusuke Kawanago II
  • Gianni Subba vs. Eugene Toquero
  • James McSweeney vs. Chris Lokteff
  • Tatsuya Mizuno vs. Leandro Ataides
  • Eduard Folayang vs. Kotetsu Boku
  • Rey Docyogen vs. Joshua Alvarez
  • Aung La N Sung vs. Mahmoud Salama
  • Jeet Toshi vs. Jujeath Nagaowa
