Featherweight Antonio Carvalho released from UFC

The UFC has released yet another fighter from their ever expanding roster. Canadian featherweight fighter Antonio Carvalho announced today that he had been released from the organization.

The Ajax, Ontario native went 2-2 in his last four fights, coming up short most recently against Darren Elkins at UFC 158 in March.

Carvalho took to Facebook to let his fans know about being cut.

“Just got word today, I’m no longer with the UFC roster at this point. Too many fighters in the FW division and they need to cut back. So yes, I’ve been cut. No hate towards the UFC. This was something the matchmakers had been warning us for a while about. They had often told me that they have to cut people that they want to keep around. I completely understand that this is a business and that is the climate in the UFC at the moment.”

The 33-year old came into the UFC in January of 2012 when he lost his debut to Felipe Arantes at UFC 142. He then went on to win his next two fights against Daniel Pineda and Rodrigo Damm.

Carvalho began his professional MMA career back in 2002 and has fought for many organizations along the way including MFC, TKO, Shooto, Cage Force and Score Fighting Series.

No word as to what is next for “Pato.”

“I don’t know where I will go from here. I’ll just have to sit back and think about what I want to do next with my life. Thanks again to everyone that has always supported me.”
