Fight Boozin’: UFC 182 Edition

Now, for those of us over the legal drinking age, alcoholic beverages are often a necessary accoutrement when watching a UFC pay-per-view event. However, with such a wide range of beers, wines, and spirits available, it can sometimes be difficult to choose something that may really fit the event. That can leave you relying on the “same old same old,” or – even worse – cheap, bad beer. We here at MMASucka don’t want to see that happen to you, though. That’s why we’re bringing you this PPV-week series to help ensure that you have quality drinks for watching (hopefully) quality fights, inspired by a fighter on the card.

With UFC 182 upon us, featuring Light Heavyweight kingpin Jon “Bones” Jones taking on challenger Daniel Cormier, we’re taking a trip to Jones’ home state of New York. While the champ may be from Rochester, we’re going to NYC for this edition’s beer. Brooklyn Brewery is one of the East Coasts strongest large craft breweries in my opinion, and they’ve continued to uphold that reputation with their 2014 Black Chocolate Stout. An Imperial Stout, Brooklyn’s Black Chocolate is – as its name suggests- a thick, black brew with strong hints of chocolate and coffee. It’s like drinking a good mocha, in a way. The beer is made with Willamette and American Fuggle hops, as well as a plethora of different malts. The hops are certainly not overwhelming, and that makes this 10% ABV beauty shockingly drinkable. In fact, I had to stop myself a couple of times to keep from drinking it too fast! You may have to go to your nearest specialty liquor store to get a bottle or two, but it’s worth it. If you need help, Brooklyn Brewery will help you find the nearest store carrying it.
