Eddie Wineland: “Put your money on the other guy, you’re going to lose it”

|

Eddie Wineland reflects on his strengths as a boxer and why he thinks his conditioning will dictate his success in the Octagon during his UFC 165 bout against Renan Barao.

I would say I’m a straight forward boxer, but I’m really not – I think he’s going to see my angles and think ‘what the hell is going on.’ He’s not going to be able to find me, if you can’t find someone to hit or kick them, it’s going to nullify their striking.

I’m not concerned at all with his quickness or speed. I feel I’m the faster and stronger fighter, so if I’m faster, his speed shouldn’t be a concern. Conditioning to me, I’d like to say majority of the fight. If I can be stronger than you, those 15 or 25-minutes you’re going to have a hard time doing what you’re going to do. If I can outlast you and I can tire you out and I’m not tired then I can have free range and do whatever I want. To me, to wear somebody out and to break them mentally and physically that’s why I push myself so hard on the conditioning side of things.

I don’t mind being the underdog, big deal, put your money on the other guy, you’re going to lose it. I’m going to put my right hand on his chin and he’s going to fall down. Its no secret that there’s power in my hands.

Can I defeat Renan? Would I be sitting here right now if I didn’t think I could beat Renan? I know I can defeat Renan.
