Georges St.Pierre Out Of 137 With Sprained MCL

|

This was not the news that the UFC was expecting nor looking for.

UFc Welterweight Champion Georges St.Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) is out of next weekend’s UFC 137 main event against Carlos Condit (27-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC).

Here is the message on Twitter from UFC Presdent Dana White breaking the news.

I just land in NYC and what do I always say!? I have to deal with bad shit everyday!! GSP is out with an injury!!!

Here is the diagnosis that White revealed a few moments later on Twitter.

It’s GSP’S knee. We will sit Carlos to wait for GSP. It’s looking so far like he could be ready in a couple months. Still early to tell tho.

St.Pierre was originally scheduled to face Nick Diaz but after missing two press conferences to officially announce the fight, White pulled Diaz and replaced him with Condit.

There is talk that after GSP has his knee scoped he could be out between four to six weeks and will most likely return to fight in the early part of 2012. This is obviously a major blow especially for the amount of Canadian fans from BC and Alberta that are making the Trek to Vegas.

UPDATE: Injury to GSP is a sprained MCL and will most likely need a four-week recovery time. Good news that it was not a tear.
