Three more fights added to UFC 162; Munoz vs. Boetsch, Kennedy vs. Gracie and Cavalcante vs. Silva

The UFC 162 fight card which will take place on Independence Day weekend is quickly filling up. On Wednesday the UFC announced that Anderson Silva would take on Chris Weidman for the UFC middleweight championship in the main event of the evening. Three more fights have been added to the expanding card.

The match-ups include Mark Munoz vs. Tim Boetsch, Tim Kennedy vs. Roger Gracie and Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante vs. Thiago Silva.

Munoz (12-3) is coming off a big loss to Chris Weidman at this past July’s UFC on FUEL TV event. That loss snapped a four fight winning streak and the possibility to fight for the middleweight title. Boetsch (15-6) was also a top contender and on a four fight winning streak, that is before he was derailed by Costa Philippou at this past December’s UFC 155.

Kennedy (15-4) and Gracie (6-1) are both making the transition over from Strikeforce. The ex-Special Forces Staff Sergeant, Kennedy will look to get his first win inside the UFC’s infamous Octagon. He is coming off a win at the final Strikeforce card against Trevor Smith, but lost his previous fight to Luke Rockhold in a middleweight title fight. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace, Gracie, will look to also continue his winning ways when he makes the move over. He is on a two fight winning streak, most recently picking up a win over Anthony Smith. The Blackhouse fighters only loss comes to Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal.

Silva (14-3) is 0-2-2NC in his last four fights. He dominated Brandon Vera at UFC 125, however submitted a tampered urine sample and was suspended. Upon his return he lost at UFC on FUEL TV 2 to Alexander Gustafsson and then followed up with another failed drug test (Marijuana Metabolites) when he beat Stanislav Nedkov. Cavalcante (11-3) is also coming off a suspension, as he failed his post-fight drug test this past May following a win over Mike Kyle.

UFC 162 is expected to go down on July 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be headlined by the aforementioned middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman.
