MMA legend Georges St-Pierre made his way to Thailand for a seminar and found some time to train with some of the best along the way. While in Phuket, the French-Canadian met up with top ONE Championship bantamweight Nico Carrillo. “The King of the North” was more than happy to offer his services and teach the all-time great.
Nico Carrillo Guides Georges St-Pierre Through Training in Thailand
“I was taking him through a Muay Thai session. I was actually the coach. I took him through some fun techniques and stuff I’ve been teaching in seminars. I’ve been told by his people, and by the look on his face, that he absolutely loved it. Every time I showed him something, he was saying, ‘Oh my god! Wow!’ He was amazed by the new school of Muay Thai in this generation,” Carrillo told ONE about his training with Georges St-Pierre.

Carrillo is in Phuket preparing for his next match, which he says will happen at featherweight. After a disappointing result at ONE 170, where he failed to grab the ONE Interim Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title against Nabil Anane, Carrillo admitted that weight cutting had taken its toll (h/t South China Morning Post). He is adamant he will move up as his body changes to avoid any having to deplete his body.
The decision and preparation for his future put him in the path of one of his heroes. The Scotsman happily posed with Georges St-Pierre and joyously shared the photo on Instagram. The chance meeting thrilled Carrillo.

Nico Carrillo Discusses Meeting With Georges St-Pierre
“What a nice guy he is, too. So down to earth. They say to never meet your heroes, but he’s a hero of mine and one you definitely want to meet because he’s such a good guy,” Carrillo said.
Georges St-Pierre still looked in phenomenal shape and enjoyed his training alongside one of the best strikers on the planet. While Carrillo preps for his return, no date or opponent has been revealed. Still, it is always nice to see two elite martial artists exchange their knowledge and love of the game in the gym.
