Gilbert Melendez to the UFC ASAP

During last nights UFC on Versus 6 Post-Fight Press Conference, Dana White made mention that the UFC is looking at bringing Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez over to the organization “ASAP”.

Yeah, we do want to bring Gilbert Melendez over, and we’re looking at it right now, We’re looking to bring Gilbert Melendez over ASAP.

If this isn’t a telltale sign that Strikeforce is on its last legs, then i don’t know what does. Melendez was expected to defend his Strikeforce Lightweight belt at a possible December event against Jorge Masvidal. If the UFC does sign Melendez then that fight will obviously be off the shelf and it is a serious possibility that Melendez could get an immediate title shot with the organization.

It’s a possibility, stated White. The thing is, that division is so stacked. And usually timing has a lot to do with (who gets the next shot).

Look for this deal to be signed as White said “ASAP”.
