The PFL just announced the list of fights for their July 1st event. Many interesting matchups are filling the card, but the especially noteworthy one is the main event between Kayla Harrison and Julia Budd. Kayla Harrison has been very vocal about fighting bigger names in women’s MMA to add to her list of accomplishments that range from being multiple Olympic gold medalists in judo to her undefeated MMA career. This fight with Julia Budd has the big-name fans and Harrison was hoping for plus this bout can further build the PFL brand awareness.

Big Step for Kayla Harrison
Julia Budd will be the most experienced fighter faced by the PFL’s 2019 and 2021 Undefeated Women’s Featherweight Champion Kayla Harrison. Budd was one of the most decorated fighters on the women’s roster in Bellator when she won and successfully defended her title three times. The former Bellator champion had only lost two of her last 16 outings with one of those losses coming from Cris Cyborg back in January of 2020. Kayla Harrison defeating Julia Budd would be the biggest win of her MMA career and can open up more lucrative opportunities, including bouts with fighters from different promotions, for her and the PFL.
A Fight that can Change the Landscape of MMA
As previously stated, Harrison has called out big names like Cyborg, and getting an impressive win over a former opponent of hers can create a narrative for a super fight between Harrison and the current Bellator Champion Cyborg. Also, a victory over Judd would prove to fans that Harrison can take on the stiffer competition and that the PFL has some of the best fighters in the sport. This can be used to expand their roster and global presence as more fighters will see that there are great opportunities with the PFL to create more matchups and super fights for their PPV events.
