Following a report from Canal Combate’s Ana Hissa, UFC officials confirmed that a pivotal middleweight matchup between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and former light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort has been booked for the main event of UFC Fight Night in Brazil later this year.

Jacare Souza vs. Vitor Belfort booked for UFC Fight Night in Brazil

Souza (22-4, 1 NC) is coming off a close split decision loss to Yoel Romero, who failed an out-of-competition drug test afterwards, on the main card of UFC 194 last month. That loss snapped an eight-fight winning streak for Souza, which included an impressive stoppage over Gegard Mousasi.

Belfort (25-11) returned to the cage in May 2015 after over a year on the sidelines against Chris Weidman with the middleweight championship on the line. The Brazilian was devastated by the “All-American,” losing by TKO in the first round. He rebounded successfully, however, when he stopped Dan Henderson in crushing fashion this past November.

UFC Fight Night takes place from an undetermined venue and city in Brazil on May 14. No other fights have been added to the card.
