UFC 322 marked the end of Jack Della Maddalena‘s short reign as welterweight champion at the hands of the dominant, Islam Makhachev. The fight never got going for the Perth native, who landed just 30 strikes. He was on the wrong end of one of the most one sided title fights in UFC history.

Jack Della Maddalena seemed to be in pain throughout the fight and was visibly frustrated between the later rounds, with his coach at one point telling him to “take that f*cking sad look off your face“, highlighting just how bad the situation was for the champion. Makhachev clocked over 19 minutes of control time across the 25-minute distance and never gave JDM a chance.

Jack Della Maddalena’s Coach Speaks Out
We haven’t heard anything from Jack Della Maddalena as of yet, however, his coach from Scrappy MMA, Ben Vickers, has spoken out regarding his man’s loss. He took to Instagram to say:
“I am more proud of a Jack and the team today than ever before. True, we didn’t get the marbles but we dared to dream and took our shot. It hurts. It hurts like hell but we aren’t defined by this sport it’s just what we love to do.
We have felt all the support and love over the last couple weeks and decades and it means the world. I love Jack and the Team and I love Scrappy MMA and our community.
I’ll see you all on the mats as soon as I’m back in glorious P Town.
And rest assured, this is the beginning not the end!”

Fellow Aussie and former two time opponent of Makhachev and reigning featherweight king, Alexander Volkanovski, replied to the post stating: “Jack is an absolute legend! He will be back no doubt”
The champion has a point, Jack Della Maddalena is still just 29 years old, however, in a stacked welterweight division, he’s got a steep hill to climb.
