Jamall Emmers: Building for the UFC Shot

Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series has brought along many new stars into the UFC. Jamall Emmers will look to be the next in that line of young superstars to use this gateway to enter the octagon. The former Hero FC featherweight champion and LFA co-main eventer will fight on Week 3 of DWTNCS. Week 3 will take place June 26, 2018.

Jamall Emmers: Building for the UFC Shot

Introduction to the Arts

Most fighters, especially from the United States, will say seeing the UFC was their introduction to MMA. Emmers had a bit a different introduction. “I grew up a fan of fighting. My dad was the one to show me what MMA was. He would rent Pride FC tapes from Blockbuster and he, my brother, and I would watch them together,” Emmers told MMASucka.

Emmers currently trains at Pinnacle MMA in Redlands, CA under the tutelage of BJJ black belt Jake Behney. Behney, a former multi-time US Open Champion, is also the owner and head coach at Pinnacle MMA. “When I got my purple belt is when I knew I was in it for the long haul,” Emmers said. “My coach Jake has taught me a lot about life and fighting. He plays a big part in my development as a fighter and person.”

Transition to the Pro Level

The professional career for Emmers would get off to a great start winning his first bout by second-round submission in October 2012. Emmers would continue his winning ways compiling a record of 5-1 over the next 18 months leading to his Hero FC: Best of the Best 1 title shot against Brett Ewing for the vacant belt in February 2014.

The bout would go the full 25 minutes with Emmers picking up the unanimous decision and the Hero FC featherweight title. Emmers and Ewing had met just five months prior under the Hero FC banner at the Texas Pride event. There would be two successful defenses before dropping the title just shy of the one year mark in January 2015.

The Rebound and Forward Movement

After dropping the featherweight title, Emmers would compile a record of 6-1 over the next year and a half. The only loss would come to LFA rising star Thiago Moises. Emmers most recent bout was a third-round knockout victory against Guilherme Faria in the co-main event of LFA 36: Simon vs. Zani in March 2018.

After the amazing performance at LFA 36, Emmers received the call that all young up and comers want to receive. It was the call to participate in the Dana White Contender’s Series.

“My manager called me one day and just told me it’s your time,” Emmers told MMASucka. “He told me I was going to be on the contender’s series. This is the chance of a lifetime. I feel like this is my only shot so I know I have to work even harder than I normally would.” Emmers will participate in week four of the DWTNCS on June 26, 2018, as he will take on Julian Erosa.
