Jamie Varner steps in against Joe Lauzon at UFC on FOX 4

The former WEC lightweight champion is stepping in on short notice once again at UFC on FOX 4 against Joe Lauzon.

UFC officials announced the match-up late Wednesday evening.

Varner made his return to the organization at UFC 146 where he knocked out the then undefeated Edson Barboza.

Following two straight losses in the WEC, Varner was released from the promotion. He bounced around a few different promotions, where he racked up a record of 3-1 before the UFC came calling.

Varner will now step up on short notice again to face Joe Lauzon at UFC on FOX 4, where Terry Etim was forced to withdraw from the fight due to injury.

Varner and Lauzon are expected to be on the undercard of UFC on FOX 4 which takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on August 4.
