Johny Hendricks next goal is to finish Martin Kampmann

Following his split decision victory over Josh Koscheck at UFC on FOX: Diaz vs. Miller, Johny Hendricks was promised a title shot. However, that is not the case, as he will now have to go through Martin Kampmann first.

UFC President Dana White announced last week that the organization had penciled in Georges St-Pierre vs. Carlos Condit for the undisputed welterweight championship and Hendricks vs. Kampmann number one contender status. Both these bouts are expected to go down at UFC 154 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on November 17, 2012.

Hendricks spoke with Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting and stated that he was “disappointed”, however “that’s the nature of this business.”

I feel like I fought the best guys at 170 in our division and I’ve won, but it looks like I have to get through one more person, and that’s just the way it goes. You can either sit here and complain about it or you can sit there and do your best to win it. Of course you’re disappointed. You get promised a title shot and then something happens and it doesn’t happen. But then again, that’s the nature of this business. There’s always good fights going on, you just have to win each one … He’s had some good fights. He’s lost rounds but ends up winning. That’s who Kampmann is. You have to go in there and finish him. My next goal is to do that.

Hendricks (13-1) is currently riding a four fight win streak, with key victories over former number one contender Jon Fitch and welterweight king pin Josh Koscheck. His lone loss came at the hands of Rick Story at  TUF 12 Finale in late 2010.

Kampmann (20-5) is on a three fight win streak, with two straight stoppages against Thiago Alves at UFC on FX 2 and most recently Jake Ellenberger in the main event at the TUF 15 Finale.
