The UFC have lost another pay per view main event, as featherweight champion Jose Aldo has pulled out of his defence against Chad Mendes with an undisclosed injury.

Aldo had been due to rematch Mendes on August 2 in Los Angeles as the main event of UFC 176, but that card will now go ahead with an as yet undetermined new main event. This is Aldo’s second injury in a year, after breaking his foot in his victory over the Korean Zombie at UFC 163 last August.

In their first meeting at UFC 142, Jose Aldo took a somewhat controversial KO victory over Mendes in Brazil.

The injury to Aldo leaves the UFC with two pay per view events next month with no headliners – in addition to UFC 176 UFC 177 is scheduled to take place on August 30 in Las Vegas, but currently has no scheduled fights.
