“The Party” is coming to the PNE Agrodome on December 7 in the main event at World Series of Fighting 7.
Lance Palmer (7-0) will look to continue on his winning ways in his first bout for the promotion. In the snap of a finger it also became his first main event for WSOF as well. Palmer lives with UFC flyweight contender Joseph Benavidez and their house has now been dubbed “the main event”.
Lance Palmer wants to finish Georgi Karakhanyan with a “bang”
I live with Joe Benavidez and we were talking about it because he’s the main event for Sacramento’s UFC card. So now we call our house the main event.
This will be the first time in Palmer’s professional career that he has been the headlining act and with that comes some pressure. He is excited, but also knows that he must stay focused on the task at hand.
It’s pretty cool, I’m excited. It’s still a fight, you still have to go out there and get the job done. Being the main focus, the main event of the whole card as my first fight signing on with World Series of Fighting is pretty exciting. It being on NBC Sports Network is pretty cool. I’m hyped up about it, but I still have to stay focused on the fight and not just the fact that it is the main event.
Being undefeated as a mixed martial artist can be rather nerve wracking. Mentally it can weigh on your shoulders and ultimately determine a win or a loss. Lucky for Palmer, he trains with some of the best in the world at Team Alpha Male and he doesn’t let that come in to play all that much.
I think I put more pressure on myself to stay that way. I train with the best guys in the world and I feel that I deserve to stay undefeated. The training and everything else I put in to it I feel like I put the pressure on myself to stay that way. Also when you go in to a fight, it’s a fight and you can’t control what goes on in there – you can control what you do. I am aware of that, I just train to get better each fight. Going into it, it’s not really something you can focus on or that’s when you lose.
With Duane Ludwig as the head of your coaching staff, game-planning becomes a whole lot easier. That and the fact that he has some background knowledge on Karakhanyan has Palmer feeling extremely confident for December 7.
I’ve seen him fight, I watched a couple of his fights and my coaches have watched a couple of his fights. Duane “Bang” [Ludwig] knows of him really well because he was around him a while ago when Georgi was fighting a while back. It’s good to have that background on him also. I like to watch him fight just so I can see what he does, because you get a couple of different looks at a guy from different coaches and you have all those angles and different techniques and things that you can pull out of it. I know what he does, I know his style and I’m just looking forward to getting out there and taking it to him.
The 25-year old has picked up his fair share of decision and submission victories, however he hasn’t been able to notch his first knockout win. He would like to get that at WSOF 7, but he knows you can’t force it. Nonetheless he guarantees that he will finish the fight with a “bang”.
I’d like to finish him with my first knockout. I haven’t gotten a knockout yet – I know you can’t force a knockout, so we’ll see what happens in there. I want to finish this fight though, my last couple fights have been decisions, so I’d like to go out there and finish it with a bang.
