Marlon Vera vs. Davey Grant – UFC Vegas 29 Preview

UFC Vegas 29 is being headlined by a featherweight matchup between Chan Sung Jung and Dan Ige. Also on the main card, bantamweight contenders Davey Grant and Marlon Vera will be facing off in the fight right before the co-main event. Grant will be looking to take Vera’s number 15 spot in the division.

Marlon Vera (16-7-1)

Marlon Vera has never been finished in his professional career with all seven of his losses being decisions. He is 10-6 in the UFC, winning three performance bonuses in that time. Vera has UFC Wins over Sean O’Malley, Andre Ewell, Brian Kelleher, and Brad Pickett. Marlon Vera has finished his opponent in 13 out of his 16 wins. Six of those finishes being knockouts and seven of them being submissions.

Marlon Vera is a black belt in Brazillian Jiujitsu. He is currently tied with TJ Dillashaw for the most stoppage wins in the UFC’s bantamweight division. Vera is currently training out of Team Oyama in California. Vera will hold a slight 1.5″ reach advantage over Grant in their fight this weekend.

Davey Grant (13-4)

Davey Grant has a win already over Marlon Vera in his second UFC fight back in 2016. Grant has never been knocked out in his professional career and has been submitted in all four of his professional losses. Surprisingly, eight out of his 13 wins are also by submission. Grant has a purple belt in BJJ under Matt Inman. He is currently training at SBG Mainline in England.

Grant only has three losses in the UFC and those losses were to Chris Holdsworth, Damian Stasiak, and Manny Bermudez. His biggest UFC wins include Vera, Martin Day, and Jonathan Martinez. Grant has won two performance of the night bonuses in his last two fights. His eight submission wins take attention away from his high-level striking. Grant has been training kickboxing since the age of 14.
