Matt Brown vs Erick Silva set to headline UFC Fight Night 40
FOX Sports broke the news on Monday and UFC officials later confirmed.
Brown (18-11) has been riding one of the best winning streaks in the 170-pound division at six fights. The streak began with a big TKO victory over Chris Cope at UFC 143 in early 2012. He followed up with victories over Stephen Thompson, Luis Ramos, Mike Swick, Jordan Mein and most recently a big knockout win over Mike Pyle at UFC Fight Night 26 in August of last year.
“The Immortal” has been out of action since that fight, due to a back injury.
Silva (16-4 1NC) is coming off a big first round knockout against Takenori Sato at UFC Fight Night 36 earlier this month. The victory earned Silva $50,000 for Performance of the Night.
After going 8-0 with one no-contest leading in to his UFC debut, he has been on a roller-coaster ride of wins and losses inside the Octagon. The Brazilian holds a 4-3 record under the UFC banner.
UFC Fight Night will go down on May 10 from Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena. Other notable fights that have been announced are Lorenz Larkin vs. Costas Philippou, Erik Koch vs. Daron Cruickshank and Eddie Wineland vs. Johnny Eduardo.
