It’s going down at Unified MMA 33!
Canada-based MMA organization, Unified MMA, has announced the signing of a veteran in the form of Matt “The Hammer” Hamill. He challenges Alberta’s Teddy “Bear” Ash for the vacant light heavyweight title at Unified MMA 33.
The promotion announced the signing late Thursday.
⚠ Very excited to announce Teddy Ash will fight 16-time #UFC vet @hammer_hamill for the #UnifiedMMA Light-Heavyweight Championship in the main event of #Unified33 on May 11 at @RiverCreeCasino ?https://t.co/ktY6Hg0o8O

Despite being 41-years-old, fifteen-time UFC-veteran Matt Hamill (12-8) still seems interested in competing in mixed martial arts for the foreseeable future. Following a decision loss to Thiago Silva in 2013, “The Hammer” closed out his UFC tenure with a record of 10-5. This includes wins over Mark Munoz, Tim Boetsch, Tito Ortiz, and Keith Jardine, as well as a disqualification win over Jon Jones.
Hamill took two years off following the Silva loss in 2013, returning in 2015 and quickly losing to Vinny Magalhaes under the WSOF banner. In 2016, Hamill fought two times and was knocked out by Sokoudjou and Julian Marquez, lasting a combined 1:59. His first win in five years came in his sole 2017 bout, however. He knocked out fellow UFC-veteran Luiz Cane in 38-seconds at Fight2Night 2 in Brazil.
Fighting out of Fort McMurray, Teddy “Bear” Ash (10-3) is riding high with four-straight victories in a 12-month span between March 2017 and March 2018. He picked up three-straight wins under the Unified MMA banner in 2017. This includes stoppage victories over Nick Campbell and Victor Valimaki.
Just two weeks ago, Ash challenged for the vacant Prestige FC light heavyweight title and stopped Cameron Olson mid-way through round one to become the champion. The 28-year-old finisher has competed at heavyweight, light heavyweight, and middleweight, but seems to have found a home at light heavyweight. Especially if he can hold two belts in two of Canada’s top mixed martial arts promotions with a win over a big name in Matt Hamill.
Unified 33: Resurgence is scheduled to take place on May 11 at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alberta.
The co-main event features a lightweight title fight between champion Shane “Shaolin” Campbell and Stephen “Big Bad” Beaumont. The show also features former title-challenger Mike Scarello, Bellator veteran Behrang Yousefi, and Canadian pioneer Lee Mein.
