Megan Anderson – Latest Challenge

Megan Anderson has her latest challenge at UFC Fight Night 169 against Norma Dumont. It’s an important fight for the women’s featherweight division. Norma Dumont is a new name and is making her UFC debut. While she has four wins and no losses, those wins have come against names not known to the larger MMA fanbase.

Resume

Anderson, on the other hand, is an established name. She is a former champion outside of the UFC and holds a victory over Cat Zingano in the UFC. With an overall record of 10-4, Anderson’s run in the UFC has left a few fans disappointed. Her record in the premier organisation has been 2-2, with losses coming to Holly Holm and Felicia Spencer. The fans who saw Megan Anderson maul her opponents during her heyday in Invicta were among the most disappointed.

While Holly Holm has always been a formidable opponent, Spencer was a relative new-comer. Anderson held a big advantage in terms of size. However, Spencer proved to have an excellent ground game, scoring a submission win.

Next Opponent

Norma Dumont’s style is also ground heavy. While we haven’t seen enough, we do know that half of Dumont’s wins have come by submission.

Anderson recently spoke out about her personal battles. Without making any excuses, Anderson revealed that some of these issues hampered her. Things seem to have improved for her. At the record-breaking UFC 243 event, Megan Anderson would secure her first submission win in the UFC over Zarah Fairn dos Santos. Understandably, Anderson was overcome with emotion afterwards.

Going into the fight with Dumont, Anderson once again holds a size advantage. She also holds an experience advantage. While Spencer did beat Anderson in her UFC debut, it is hard to discount the UFC debut phenomenon. Spencer displayed unusual confidence. She went on to fight Cris Cyborg and proved to be tougher than expected.

It’s not clear if Dumont possesses those same traits. The parallels in terms of submission expertise are present, however. Anderson’s challenge this weekend may require her to keep the fight on the feet. It’s an important fight for both women, where we could expect an entertaining battle.
