Munguia vs. Deveryachenko Preview

Undefeated Mexican star Jaime Munguia looks to extend his winning record this Saturday at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, Canada, as he takes on three-time world title challenger Sergiy Deveryachenko in a 12-round Super middleweight bout live on DAZN via Golden Boy promotions.

Munguia vs. Deveryachenko

Munguia (41-0, 33 KOs) has been a topic of disappointment amongst fans for the last couple of years for failing to gain a statement win against an opponent of quality since winning the WBO super welterweight title against Sadam Ali in 2018.

Munguia made five successful title defenses, Liam Smith being the most impressive of them, and then opted to jump from 154 pounds to 160 pounds in January 2020 where he fought seven scheduled bouts with six of them being stopped before the final bell. The biggest test of his campaign at middleweight being Gabriel Rosado. He later secured a victory at 168 pounds when stopped Jimmy Kelly in May 2022 and his latest appearance being a three round knockout of Gonzalo Coria in his hometown of Tijuana, Mexico in November last year.

Sergiy Deveryachenko (14-4, 10 KOs) is a different level of competition than the previous mentioned opponents. He isn’t the marquee name of a Jermall Charlo or Gennadiy Golovkin but he’s the perfect measuring scale to get Munguia on the door step to knock for the top of the division.

Derevyanchenko has also delivered his best performances ironically in close losses. The 37 year old Ukranian lost a razor close decision to Daniel Jacobs in 2018 and then a similarly close encounter with “GGG” a year later.

’The Technician’ then had a close war in his third world title opportunity in September 2020 against Jermall Charlo but once again, came up short on the judges scorecard. Deveryachenko would return and be upsetted by Carlos Adames despite a second half resurgence in the bout.

The Ukranian contender would secure a win in July 2022 defeating Joshua Conley in a 10 round decision.
