Newly signed Roger Huerta to take on Phil Baroni at ONE FC 4: Destiny of Warriors

By Thinesh John

A bout between Roger Huerta (21-6) and Phil Baroni (14-14) has been added to June’s ONE FC 4: Destiny of Warriors card.

ONE Fighting Championship confirmed the fight on Twitter, as well as on their official Facebook page.

ONE FC 4: Destiny of Warriors takes place June 23rd at the Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The fight card is expected to stream online, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Baroni will be making his 2nd appearance in the Singapore-based promotion, following a Unanimous Decision defeat to Yoshiyuki Yoshida at the organization’s ‘Champion vs. Champion’ event last September.

‘The New York Badass’ has suffered 4 defeats in his past 5 outings, falling short against the likes of Joe Riggs, Amir Sadollah and Brad Tavares.

Now competing as a veteran, the 36-year-old has competed at the highest level of MMA competition, gaining a 3-7 record during his stint with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and a record of 4-2 back when he fought in the now defunct PRIDE promotion.

As a fighter who once made a name for himself from a series of impressive knockouts in the UFC, he’ll definitely have to set up the barricades against his upcoming opponent.

Roger Huerta was once the owner of an 11-fight win streak that included wins over the likes of Clay Guida and Leonard Garcia in the UFC. The American though, is now on a 3-fight losing streak, falling short to notables Pat Curran and Eddie Alvarez at Bellator 17 and Bellator 33 respectively.

El Matador will now be looking to snap that losing streak, when he makes his debut at the ONE FC 4: Destiny of Warriors event. It’s also well-worth noting that this bout marks the first time that Huerta will be fighting outside of the United States.

The June 23rd card now includes:

* Renato Sobral vs. Tatsuya Mizuno

* Roger Huerta vs. Phil Baroni

* Masakazu Imanari vs. Leandro Issa

* Eddie Ng vs. Arnaud Lepont

* Gregor Gracie vs. Adam Kayoom

* Allamurad Karayev vs. Roldan Sangcha-an

* Rodrigo Praxedes vs. Marcos Escobar

* Peter Davis vs. Quek Kim Hock
