Nikita Krylov Ill, Out of UFC Vegas 70 Main Event

UFC Vegas 70 Main Event Between Nikita Krylov and Ryan Spann Cancelled

UFC Vegas 70’s light heavyweight main event between Nikita Krylov and Ryan Spann has been cancelled just hours before the fight was supposed to happen due to Krylov falling ill. The sixth ranked light heavyweight contender had arrived to the UFC Apex early as he worked with the UFC medical team to see if they could get him fit to fight, unfortunately he was deemed unfit to go out just after the main card broadcast had begun.

Krylov was expected to face off against the eighth-ranked light heavyweight contender, Ryan Spann. Both fighters were entering the fight with two straight victories behind them. Krylov’s last two wins were both over former UFC light heavyweight title challengers as he picked up a knockout win over Alexander Gustafsson and a unanimous decision win over Volkan Oezdemir. Spann’s back-to-back wins were both finishes as he submitted Ion Cutelaba and knocked out former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes in his last two fights. Each man looked to pick up their third straight win and get closer to the top five of the light heavyweight division. It is unclear if the UFC has any plans to reschedule this fight.

Andre Muniz vs. Brendan Allen to Serve as New Three Round Main Event

Taking over as UFC Vegas 70’s main event will be the former co-main event, a three round middleweight matchup between Andre Muniz and Brendan Allen. Both a product of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, they will be fighting in what is technically their first main event.

Andre Muniz is entering the fight with an undefeated record in the UFC of 5-0 after he had a successful showing on the Contender Series in 2018 and 2019. He picked up a unanimous decision win over Antonio Arroyo in his UFC debut and then went on to win three straight fights by submission against Bartosz Fabinski, Ronaldo Souza, and Eryk Anders. In his most recent fight, Muniz picked up his fifth win in the octagon with a unanimous decision over Uriah Hall.

Allen also came off the Contender Series in 2019 but has fought twice as many times as Muniz has since they made their debuts. He has won his last three fights in a row coming into his fight against Muniz. Of those wins, he picked up two submissions over Sam Alvey and Krzysztof Jotko, as well as a unanimous decision win against Jacob Malkoun. Muniz sits at #11 in the UFC’s middleweight rankings while Allen is unranked. A win for Allen would put him in the top fifteen of the division, while a win for Muniz could keep him idle, or even crack the top ten.
