ONE Championship delivered an event in its return to the Middle East on Thursday, February 20. ONE 171: Qatar excited fans around the world and inside Lusail Sports Arena. The evening was capped off by two exceptional World Championship main events.

Joshua Pacio Defends Belt in ONE 171 Main Event
During the main event between Joshua Pacio and Jarred Brooks for the undisputed ONE Strawweight MMA World Title, Filipinos were seen in the video showing their support for “The Passion.” One of those was ONE Interim Atomweight MMA World Champion Denice Zamboanga. It was a reflection of how important that title tilt was to an entire country and not just the champion inside the Circle.
Jonathan Haggerty Puts on Terrific Show in ONE 171 Co-Main Event
For the co-main event of ONE 171, ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion Jonathan Haggerty turned away Wei Rui. The near-perfect showing from the Brit proved to his doubters he could defeat the very best in kickboxing despite the majority of his experience coming in Muay Thai. Following his outstanding performance, Haggerty spent time with his significant other backstage.
The vlog also showed Bibiano Fernandes and Martin Nguyen following their retirements. Both men laid their gloves in the Circle following their respective bouts. Backstage, the two shared a moment together and wished each other the best.
The heartfelt moments not only came from the winners. Following his crushing knockout loss, Aung La N Sang remained positive. Although he noted Father Time had slowed him down, “The Burmese Python” sent a message to fans saying that he would never stop fighting and fans should not either.
