Paul Cheng officially retires from MMA

37-year-old Paul Cheng has decided to step away from the sport of mixed martial arts.

Following a 26-second knockout loss to Brandon Vera in the main event of ONE Championship: Spirit of Champions, Cheng reflected on things and has made a decision.

“Typhoon” made the official announcement on his Facebook page on Friday morning.

“I’m ok everyone! Thanks for all the love. Back to the show biz for me,” Cheng said. “Thanks to Victor Cui for the bonus money and Fighting Brandon Vera for a world title. 2 weeks of hard training and 72 hours notice definitely doesn’t cut it. Going to hang out for a few days. Officially retiring from MMA. Stunt world see u soon! Ninja and Cee lo now I said a proper good bye.”

Cheng made his MMA debut after a very successful pro football career in 2011. After going 3-1, the Clinch MMA fighter was signed to ONE Championship. The 37-year-old went 2-1 with the promotion, with his two victories over Alain Ngalani and Mahmoud Hassan.

The Tapei Canadian will now return to the silver screen, which has had his fare share of success already. Cheng is most recognizable for his role as Hun #3 in the Night at the Museum trilogy.

We wish the best for Paul Cheng in his future endeavours.
