Paul Daley Announces his Retirement Bout

In his recent interview with MMA Hour Paul Daley, a near two-decade MMA veteran announced that his final Bellator bout on May 13 in the U.K. will be the last fight of his mixed martial arts career.

‘Semtex’ said that all those years of being active in an MMA game, hours spent both on the road and in the gym has caught up with him and now he’s ‘just tired’. In his own words, he is in a position to retire as he doesn’t want to be one of the fighters that are getting knocked out all the time by the youngsters.

As for now, Daley doesn’t know who will be his final opponent, but he knows that the decision to walk away is the right one. He admitted that he was thinking about it for a while now and knew that Bellator will be his final stop in the MMA career. Initially, his April 2021 fight against Sabah Homasi was intended to be his retirement bout, however, despite winning the match up Daley wanted to end his career in the U.K. What’s more. ‘Semtex’ didn’t feel like his heart was in that fight and now the fact that he will compete in front of his family, friends, neighbours and students provides him with proper motivation.

Daley said that even if he is hanging up the MMA gloves he still wants to be active in combat sports, though it would be more of a spectacle attraction than a serious sports competition, which would mean some crossover fight in Triller like fashion.

Daley, who is over 19 years veteran of the sport is considered as one of the U.K. MMA pioneers. He fought in UFC, Elite XC, Strikeforce, Pancrase, Bellator amongst many other promotions. He has a 43 – 18 – 2 professional MMA record that includes victories over such notable names as Jorge Masvidal, Martin Kampmann, and Lorenz Larkin.
