Phil Baroni snaps his ankle at ONE FC 9

Today was a very bad day for “the New York Badass,” who was experiencing a career resurgence with Asia’s top MMA promotion. The break occurred approximately four minutes into his bout with Nobutatsu Suzuki (10-1), while he was under fire from the Japanese athlete against the cage and attempting to escape. He tried to circle out, but then crumpled down in a heap, absorbing strikes from Suzuki until the referee stopped the fight at 4:17 in the first round.

Special thanks to Zombie Prophet for making the GIF.
This unfortunate injury brings Baroni’s record to an even 16-16, and given his age, stands a very real chance of being his last fight. We here at MMASucka wish Phil Baroni a speedy recovery.
