Ray Sefo confirms expansion to New Zealand and Australia

This Saturday night (December 7) WSOF 7 goes down from Vancouver’s PNE Agrodome and will be the companies first time outside of the United States. The Las Vegas based promotion’s President Ray Sefo announced at WSOF 6 that they have joined forces with Pancrase to continue the expansion to Japan.

At today’s WSOF 7 open workouts at Clinch MMA in Burnaby, BC, Sefo announced that they will be taking their World Series of Fighting shows over to New Zealand and Australia.

We’ve been saying all along that we are going to go globally and this is the beginning of that. It is World Series of Fighting and we’ve signed deals with Australia and New Zealand – we’ve signed deals with Japan, Brazil is in the works and the UK is in the works. So there are a lot of things in the works for 2014.

In 2014 WSOF plans on doing anywhere from eight to twelve events next year, so where do the Japan, New Zealand and Australia events fit into the mix? Sefo had an estimated answer.

Japan, they are probably looking at late March or early April and New Zealand/Australia want the show there at the end April. That could change to a little bit of a later date, depending on where we are. We have a show in Miami on January 18, then we have another show set for March, so it just depends on the schedule there and making sure everyone is in sync with all the shows around the world.

As mentioned the first global expansion goes down on Saturday and will feature Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Lance Palmer in the main event for the inaugural featherweight championship.

Keep up with more on WSOF.
