Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao will return to the Octagon at UFC Fight Night 58 against Mitch Gagnon.
Renan Barao returns to Octagon at UFC Fight Night 58 against Mitch Gagnon
UFC officials announced the fight on Wednesday evening.
Barao (32-2, 1NC) was expected to take on T.J. Dillashaw for the 135-pound title at UFC 177, however a weight-cutting issue forced the former champ out of action. His last fight was at UFC 173, where he lost the belt to Dillashaw via fifth round TKO. Prior to that loss, the Brazilian was undefeated since his first professional bout in 2005.
Gagnon (12-2) is currently riding a four-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming UFC Fight Night 54 earlier this month against Roman Salazar. The Canadian lost his UFC debut against Bryan Caraway at UFC 149, but followed up with victories over Walel Watson, Dustin Kimura and Tim Gorman.
The Barao vs. Gagnon bout will serve as the UFC Fight Night 58 co-main event.
UFC Fight Night 58 is set to go down on December 20 from the Ginásio José Corrêa in Barueri, Brazil. Headlining the event are middleweights Lyoto Machida and C.B. Dolloway.
