Report: WWE believes Brock Lesnar will re-sign with UFC

It’s been almost three years to the day since Brock Lesnar was last inside the Octagon. He retired from the sport of mixed martial arts following a 2011 TKO loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that a return to the Octagon is highly likely for the 37-year-old.

“The Lesnar people always keep things quiet, but within the company, the belief is that he’s going back to UFC, and his showing up lighter to TV last week confirmed that to people who thought it,” Meltzer said.

Lesnar (5-3) won his MMA debut in 2007 against Min-Soo Kim at a Dynamite event in Japan. Following that tune-up fight he was fed to the wolves in the UFC, going up against former heavyweight champion Frank Mir. After beating Mir up for the first minute, a split-second kneebar forced Lesnar to tap and the WWE star was now 1-1.

He went on to win his next four fights, which included a rematch against Mir for the UFC Heavyweight Champion and defending that belt twice against Randy Couture, as well as Shane Carwin.

Lesnar lost the last two fights of his UFC tenure, losing the heavyweight gold against Cain Velasquez and the aforementioned Overeem.

No word from the UFC on the Lesnar situation, but keep it locked to MMASucka.com for more on the news as it arises.
